Basic putexcel not outputting to excel 15 Jun Hi all, I'm trying to output very basic entries to an excel sheet but nothing is being written into excel. I am using Stata version I don't get any error codes but still nothing outputs to the excel sheet. My code looks like this: [putexcel set "Category.
This seems like it should be very basic, but I can't figure out what the problem is. Tags: None. William Lisowski. The following works for me. Last edited by William Lisowski ; 15 Jun Comment Post Cancel.
Thanks so much for the quick reply. My apologies if I neglected something there other than including the output. I understand this seems like it should be a simple problem to solve. Even when I remove the sheetreplace, I get the same output from the commands in Stata as above, but the spreadsheet remains blank. Last edited by Jenn OKeeffe ; 15 Jun Carlos Teigimiz. Hi Jenn, you might try it this way: Code:.
Hi Carlos, Thanks so much. I've tried it with and without brackets and there's no difference. I note that unlike my code, your code does not include putexcel close. So I wrote a program called ExcelTable for my own use that creates Excel tables like the one in the screenshot. My guess is that many of you would like to have a similar program but you might prefer a different layout.
Or maybe you would like to write a do-file that creates a similar table. Today I am going to focus on formatting expressions and cells. We have made some improvements to putexcel in Stata You will need to set your Stata version to It would be too distracting to list the differences between the putexcel syntax before and after Stata You must set a destination file before you run any other putexcel commands. All subsequent putexcel commands will write to Sheet1 in the file Table1. I can format expressions by adding options to putexcel.
For example, I can specify the horizontal and vertical alignment of the expressions in the cells. Sometimes, it is easier to show labels in a table by rotating them. I can rotate an expression using the txtrotate option.
Cell borders and shading can be used to create an overall look to a table. I can use the border option to add borders to individual cells. These formatting options can be combined to customize the layout of my table.Fts accepted candidates
For example, I might wish to create a column header by merging several cells, create column titles with a double border on the bottom of each cell, and add some data to my table. These are some of the formatting options that you can specify with putexcel.Metar codes blu
You can find a complete list of formatting options in the [P] putexcel entry in the Stata Programming Reference Manual. Home About. Categories: Programming Tags: Excelputexcel. In my last postI demonstrated how to use putexcel to recreate common Stata output in Microsoft Excel. Today I want to show you how to create custom reports for arbitrary variables. I am going to create tables that combine cell counts with row percentages, and means with standard deviations.
But you could modify the examples below to include column percentages, percentiles, standard errors, confidence intervals or any statistic.
I am also going to pass the variable names into my programs using local macros. This will allow me to create the same report for arbitrary variables by simply assigning new variable names to the macros. You could extend this idea by creating a do-file for each report and passing the variable names into the do-files.
This is another important step toward our goal of automating the creation of reports in Excel. This is because each example contains the code from the previous example along with new lines of code. This allows you to see the new code in the context of the overall program but it also makes the post appear longer than it is. Most of the code in the code blocks is the same from example to example.
I could type. Now I can tabulate sex and race using their corresponding local macros. I can type return list to see a list of scalars returned by tabulate. The total number of observations is stored in the scalar r Nthe number of rows is stored in r rand the number of columns is stored in r c.
I can use the stored row and column counts to loop over each cell of the matrix cellcounts.Skyworth tv keeps turning off
The rows and columns of matrices are indexed with numbers. The rows of Excel tables are indexed with numbers but the columns are indexed with letters. I can translate the column number of a matrix to a column letter in Excel using the char function. Line 4 in Code block 1 below stores the cell name to the local macro Cell. But I will eventually need the string function so I am using it here for consistency. Line 5 then uses putexcel to write the value of Cell to the corresponding cell in Excel.
Code block 2 demonstrates how to write the cell counts from the matrix to the Excel table.

Line 4 of Code block 2 stores the cell count from the matrix cellcounts to the local macro CellContentsLine 5 stores the destination cell in the Excel table to the local macro Celland Line 6 uses putexcel to write CellContents to Cell in the Excel table. I might wish to write the row percentages to the Excel table rather than the cell counts. I will need both the cell counts and the row totals to calculate the row percentages. The tabulate command in Line 3 of Code block 3 below stores the row totals to the vector rowtotals.
Line 11 stores the cell counts to the local macro cellcount. Line 12 calculates and formats the cell percentage and stores it to the local macro cellpercent. I could write both the cell count and the row percentage to each cell.
I can do this by modifying Line 13 from Code block 3 above. Line 13 in Code block 4 below stores both cellcount and cellpercent to the local macro CellContents. Why Stata? Supported platforms. Let me show you. A stored result is simply a scalar, macro, or matrix stored in memory after you run a Stata command.Border terrier texas
The two main types of stored results are e-class for estimation commands and r-class for general commands. Because correlate is not an estimation command, we use return list to see its stored results. Now we can use putexcel to export these results to Excel. The basic syntax of putexcel is. It is easy to build the above syntax in the putexcel dialog. We have a helpful video on our YouTube channel about the dialog. Let's list the matrix r C to see what it contains.
To re-create the table in Excel, we need to export the matrix r C with the matrix row and column names. In your Stata Command window, type.

To export the matrix row and column names, we used the names option after we specifed the matrix r C. When we open the file corr. Reload the auto dataset, and run a tabulation on the variable foreign.
Because tabulate is not an estimation command, we use return list to see its stored results. We need to use the matcell and matrow options of tabulate to save its results into two Stata matrices. You probably noticed that this table does not include cumulative percentages or the total number of cars.In my last postI demonstrated how to use putexcel to recreate common Stata output in Microsoft Excel.

In my last postI showed how to use putexcel to write simple expressions to Microsoft Excel and format the resulting text and cells. Today, I want to show you how to write more complex expressions such as macros, graphs, and matrices.
I will even show you how to write formulas to Excel to create calculated cells. These are important steps toward our goal of automating the creation of reports in Excel. You can also insert Stata graphs and add cell formulas. A short description of the variables is shown to the right. After I fit my model, I want to write out the estimated coefficients and standard errors to Excel. Most estimation commands in Stata store results in the r table matrix, giving you an easy way to access estimated coefficients, standard errors, test statistics, and the like from a single stored result.
All you need to do is extract the appropriate rows and columns from the matrix. To add row labels and a cell border between the label and results, I type.
Now, I want to center the column text and results and format the numeric output to two decimals:. For example, I can add a bar graph of the average participation rate for companies over whether the k is the only retirement option offered by typing.

Stata 14 gives you much more control over how your results are formatted in Excel than you had in Stata Before, you could insert string and numeric values into specific cells in worksheets.
Now, you can format cells, format the contents of the cells, and even add graphs and formulas. Examples of cell formats you can change include changing the numeric format, adding borders, and choosing the cell color. You can control the font style used in the cell, such as whether you want bold or italics, or whether you want text in a different color. This is just a sampling of what you can do.
These features are useful for creating custom-formatted tables in Excel and automating the creation of graphs so that all of your work is fully reproducible. Now let's add a solid black border below the column titles and on the right side of the State column. If we want, we could add all of these commands to a do-file and save them for use with updated data or data from other states we may choose to sample.
